Week Seven
So, I just checked out the week seven plan of attack:
Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then jog 2.5 miles (or 25 minutes). Three times this week.
I can do that. And, I can finally ditch the podcasts! (Not that they are bad! They were awesome for those first six weeks where the intervals are all over the place. But, now, it will be nice to just get into my own zone!)
UPDATE :: I've decided to switch over to distance rather than time for the last three weeks of Cto5k. Right now, I'm pretty close on each, though not quite covering the distance. I've mapped out a half mile warm-up/cool-down segment and a 2.5 towpath segment. I'll run that three times this week with Ellie.

Week Six was Weird
Cto5k
All of our Fourth of July weekend activities pushed my last run of Week Five into this past week. So, I did the twenty minute run on Monday, W6D1 on Wednesday and then ran the two mile Muddy Paws run on Saturday. I think the race counts as W6D3, so I'm just going to cross W6D2 off my schedule and start Week Seven tomorrow.
Muddy Paws Run
The Muddy Paws run was fun. It was a really pretty setting and even though the hills were kind of challenging, it was worth it for the views and overall scenic nature of the event. I accomplished both goals that I had for the race: One was to finish in under 30 minutes (29:40 - done) and the other was to not be last. There were a fair amount of walkers and people who ran the first part, then started walking after the uphills started, so not coming in last was fairly easily accomplished.
Ellie ran the two mile with me. She was pulling pretty hard for most of the race, though, surprisingly, she was actually running in a straight line. Not too much zig-zagging to contend with. She behaved really well around all of the other dogs and even tolerated a curious dalmation who came up to visit her multiple times after the race.

I ran into a friend from agility who was doing the run/walk with her daughter and her two dogs - Katy and Kip. I was with them for the first part of the race. They decided to walk after a few of the stair climbs. I kept running, so didn't see them again. It was fun to run into someone that I know.

W3D2
Cto5k
Did the second run of week three again today. A nice run with Ellie. We had to dodge a few dogs, a path-blocking corgi walker and then a pair of bouncing shelties, but still a nice run.
Dog Training
Took Katy down to the station road trailhead to do some counter-conditioning work. Brought some salmon patties and charleebears. We saw about six dogs and she did pretty nicely. We kept to about 40 feet away or so. After that we went down under the railroad bridge to play with sticks and she was able to swim a bit.

W3D1
Started the third week of the Couch to 5k program yesterday. Doing only four running intervals seemed so short and relatively easy. I took Ellie with me. She was on a bunny and chipmunk chasing mission and was bobbing and weaving all over the place which was kind of annoying.

Took Ellie to the park and we did this run on trails. Started out at the Harriet Keeler entry and crossed through the Meadows picnic area to the other side of the trail. That last hill was a killer on the way back and our distance was definitely shorter than it is on the sidewalk, but it was still a nice run in the park. Ellie got to dip herself in the stream.

It's nice to change over to the new podcast and run a bit longer. Took Ellie with me and with this run covered about a hundred more yards. Nice weather and new shoes!

A storm today, so the humidity was a little bit less. Took Ellie and finsihed up week one! Woohoo.

W1D3
Went late at night today since it's so darn humid. Took Ellie. She was okay, but it may have bit just a bit too hot for her. An hour after our run she was still laying on the floor and panting! I'm going to have to seriously consider hosing her down before we run on days that are really hot. She'll hate it, but it will help her recover after the run.

W1D2
Second day out on the road. With Ellie. Felt pretty good. I think my shoes are pretty close to being dead, so I ordered a new pair of Adrenaline 7s and got a really good price (less than $50).

W1D1
Starting Couch to 5k. Will start a full week next week, but did W1D1 today with Ellie.
Prep for this has been on and off dog walking and a month or so of running with Katy in April. We were doing a walking warm-up on Highland and then running two fire hydrants and walking one for about six running intervals. Now that I have the podcasts for Cto5k, I don't have to worry about counting fire hydrants or monitoring my watch.
